"Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte" is a popular song with music by Frank De Vol and lyrics by Mack David, introduced in the 1964 film Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte starring Bette Davis. I won't spoil the ending for those of you yet to see it, but, Davis's performance will keep you riveted throughout, and there's a great sense of dignity in her character at the end, that comes when she learns the truth, and I found this to be quite compelling. It left a lasting impression. Please try againSorry, we failed to record your vote.
Betts Davis and Olivia De Havilland excellent combination Bette Davis horror in the same vein as What Ever Happened To Baby Jane, though not a sequel. This featurette includes several stills of Joan acting with Agnes Moorehead, Joseph Cotten and MIZZ Davis herself. Olivia de Havliand is at her most cold and cunning in this, as Charlotte's cousin Miriam. It's very entertaining, funny, etc., as a fan, to listen to stories about their rivalry and feud, but as a human being, I really wish they could have cut the crap. The wife of a rubber plantation administrator shoots a man to death and claims it was self-defense, but a letter in her own hand may prove her undoing. This is the movie I've watched numerous times, but upon the beginning of every viewing, always seem to have forgotten the outcome of the story. Three sons who work in the family construction business help their overbearing mother celebrate her anniversary to her late husband. An excellent film employing twists and turns to distress the human mind to the borders of total insanity. Yes it is a tad dated in effects compared to todays offerings, but, that is the charm of these films. It was her last film. Arrived when it said, good copy of the film. Monochrome in it's entirety, precious little to distract the viewer from the events, so, to my mind, a 100% cracker, well worth watching again and, again... What an entertaining movie! If you like B&W white movies, a 1960's vibe, and acting that is verging on the over the top from Davis then this is for you.
I also wish Joan had finished the film with everyone else, but she and MIZZ Davis made it impossible.
It follows a middle-aged Southern woman (Davis), suspected in the unsolved murder of her lover from decades before, who is plagued by bizarre occurrences after summoning her cousin (de Havilland) to help challenge the local government's impending demolition of her home. (Although the film itself wasn't as good as my parents had remembered it to be, but that's not the seller's doing) saw the film for the first time as child and had nightmares for long afterwards. Did Joan really need to scheme against MIZZ Davis throughout the Oscars?
