Greg Lakes' death saddened me. Having been raised on progressive rock in the early seventies and been a big fan of ELP, I was looking forward to reading this, particularly having seen Greg on his final tour. I've been a fan of Greg Lake's since 1970. Lucky Man not only charts the highs and lows of a career in rock music but also reflects on the death of Keith Emerson last year, living with terminal cancer and the end of life. It’s not a tell tale kind of book with huge drama all over it, although there is one mention of an incident in New York.. but read it.
It was easy reading and reasonably interesting, but it left me feeling cheated. A book I have waited for. I would say for King Crimson and ELP fans only but there are a lot of them. Lucky Man not only charts the highs and lows of a career in rock music but also reflects on the death of Keith Emerson last year, living with terminal cancer and the end of life.

For example he said that Cozy Powell would say that Keith and Greg had a good relationship whereas Cozy said when their band broke up the relationship between the two was fractious. I have been looking forward to reading this book ever since I heard that Greg was writing an autobiography. Bill Bruford: The Autobiography. Greg can best be summed up by his now-famous line: 'Material wealth is a very fleeting pleasure ... when you can buy anything you want and do anything you want, you soon discover that you actually don't want any of it.' Greg gives the impression that he just breezed through his career, and that is probably what irked Keith. We had a brief chat about a mutual acquaintance and he was very charming and engaging, much like this book. Perhaps wisely, Carl thought it best to leave the memories of ELP's great days where they belonged. It's also sad to read that although Keith, approaching the end of the road both Phisically and mentally, still had enough confidence in Greg to go for one more, last time tour; Carl, sadly didnt. Lake produced Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Tarkus, Pictures at an Exhibition, Trilogy, Brain Salad Surgery, Works Vol.
I do wonder whether the fact that he knew that he was terminally ill had some bearing on the contents. His obvious respect for Keith and Carl, the various managers and road crew and other musicians comes across. I recommend it to all of his fans. The book is as nice as the man.
After being introduced to drummer Carl Palmer, they formed the first progressive rock supergroup Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
Highly recommended. Their first album, the landmark In the Court of the Crimson King, co-produced by Greg, featured the iconic song '21st Century Schizoid Man'. Emerson, Lake and Palmer: The Show That Never Ends ... Encore He is hugely respectful and philosophical about his life and his working relationships and sounds like a man at peace with himself. Its a total contrast to the late, but great autobio from Keith Emerson. I was lucky enough to meet him after one of his shows in 2005. I was not looking for salacious details of his life, nor overly intimate ones, but hoping to get a glimpse of the man and how he lived but got nothing.
Having been a massive ELP fan in the 70s and still reeling from the passing last year of two of my musical heroes from the band, I was hoping to learn more about the man behind that incredible voice.
They want the adulation they had achieved but where can they find it? Filmaffinity no tiene relación alguna con el productor, productora o el director de la película. Greg Lake was a vocalist, musician and producer, best known as the frontman of the first progressive rock supergroup Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Keith also said of Greg that he found him difficult to work with at times and also that Greg had said the greatest gift a musician had was to be able to sing. He is totally pragmatic. He is the singer in the early King Crimson, and of course bassist and singer in the Emerson, Lake and Palmer supergroup, who filled arenas in the middle of the seventies, just like Justin Bieber does nowadays.
Tough areas to handle. Ordered this book from the UK for US delivery. He came across then as a very nice man and the book certainly reinforces that impression.
