The Italian has a real chance of making serious inroads in the General Classification standings. The gap to the peloton decreased to 1'40" as the breakaway waited. The descent continues and I think it's impossible to watch Nibali flying down these narrow country roads without feeling sick.

Here is a look at today's crucial stage in smart infographic form, which is much better than me rambling on. Rolland is lucky to still be on his bike: he closely follows Nibali but doesn't appreciate just how closely his rival cuts those corners, and nearly runs off the road as the Italian smartly snaps his bike around a stone wall. It is here I am guessing anyone who has anything left will try to gain back some time on their rivals.
He's shooting past these corners so quickly and so tightly, that one slight wobble and he'd be off his bike and, most probably, out of the Tour.
Fortunately for Rolland, Nibali doesn't exactly look like a picture of health either, and Rolland has actually just extended his advantage by 10 seconds.
